Prologue

Gendale was still furious with the Jedi. He wanted to become a Jedi by every means necessary, but after being tested, the Council had refused him. He wanted to become famous and notorious, a hero who is respected by everybody. He was convinced that he had the Force to become a Jedi and that he then could do all kind of heroics. A whiff of exasperation flew through his soul. By every means necessary he shall prove that he could become better then any Jedi can be.  He would become a hero or if needed feared, as long as he would be better than the Jedi. He was sending a message to the press that was good enough to raise some suspicion with the Koorivars. Gendale had heard of a Jedi that was sent to Kooriva on a mission that ended badly. Some Koorivars died in a dispute and Gendale, claiming to be the only witness of this, described what happened and how the Jedi was responsible for the deaths of the Koorivars. Only Gendale had never been to Kooriva, not even in their system. But that couldn't bother him much, because he had another chance to discredit the Jedi. A sense of satisfaction overcame him when he pushed the 'send' button.

Two years passed and Gendale's loathing of the Jedi grew more powerful into resentment. After discrediting the Jedi many times he wanted more. The message he just received came from a huge middle-aged man that had contacted him because of his loathing of the Jedi. The hologram was too fuzzy to make the man recognisable and Gendale thought that was on purpose. The man asked how far Gendale's hate for the Jedi went.    "I would kill a Jedi for it." Gendale said.

"Are you certain of this?" the hologram asked.   "Very certain, they destroyed my future! Why do you ask?"

"Because I want to make sure that I have found the right man to bring forth the deaths of a few Jedi and bringing their status down a notch in the process. My plan is risky, but doable. I only need a leader who is really resentful against the Jedi for my plan."

"Explain your plan."

"I am planning an attack on the heart of the Jedi, the Temple itself."

"What? But that is as good as impossible! Entering alone is very hard, but with weapons impossible!!"

"Not as impossible as you might think. I have my connections. I supply the weapons and access to the Temple , you lead my men. They are quite anti-Jedi because of your efforts to badmouth the Jedi."

The man explained his strategy to Gendale and after a long talk Gendale was very enthusiastic about this and was feeling honoured that he was chosen to lead this attack.

Gendale was ready, with his group of conspirators, for the attack he had planned out carefully. Under his command were all kind of creatures which had their reasons to despise the Jedi. Surprisingly there were also some Koorivars, who normally avoid fighting. My articles must have worked then. Gendale thought and he, again, felt some satisfaction before speaking to his subordinates. He may not be a good man, but he sure was a good talker. He stirred them up until he was sure that he had motivated them in a way that they would give their best for the mission. He then started to arm them.

Chapter 1: Black Cloak

I was walking in thoughts through the hallways of the Jedi Temple and bumped into somebody. Stupid, but I was concentrating on what my master just told me. Once again, puzzling words that require a lot of meditation to figure them out. But not in the hallway like I was doing. It seems we were both startled by it and both not focusing on the here and now. He looked me in the eyes and cracked a smile. This made me smile, and after apologizing to each other we went our own ways. But there was something about the way he looked at me that stayed in my mind because nobody looked at me that way before.

I took the turbolift to my room, but I was still so sunk in my thoughts that I pressed the wrong button and arrived eight floors to low, but after awhile I finally arrived in my room. I still wasn't feeling at ease in my new room. It was like the room had something that gave me a cold and empty feeling. Ever since they apprenticed me to my second master I moved here. I got my first master at the age of thirteen and now at the age of sixteen I got my second master.

After eating something I went to sleep.

That night I had a horrible dream and woke up at midnight with a not so great feeling in my head. I was just laying down when I suddenly felt a ripple in the Force. Close to my apartment, there were two beings. It was a small ripple, nobody could have felt it while sleeping. But I was awake and curious. I couldn't keep my curiosity under control so I opened the door and sneaked closer to the whispers. I heard the two beings discussing something from behind the corner where I was standing. I tried to understand them, but they were talking so soft that I could only hear a few words. But from those words I understood that they weren't Jedi for sure. I sat down at the floor so that my head would not be noticed. I peeked around the corner. One of the beings was wearing a black cloak. With the sounds of the words he spoke, a strange, frigid feeling entered my soul, a feeling I never had felt before. The other seemed familiar to me and I tried to figure out where I saw him before, but this was not the time nor the place to use a Jedi-technique to search my thoughts. The man with the cloak took a package from the other who in return got a datacard. Most likely to verify the transfer of the credits to his account, I thought. Both walked away quickly in opposite directions. I decided to follow the black cloak because he had something important with him. But I was to late to stop him when he suddenly flew away with a parked taxi. How he entered and left the temple was a big puzzle to me.

Out of breath I arrived at master Yoda, who didn't seem happy about my middle of the night visit. But after telling him what happened, he gave me a file with recent pictures of all Jedi and asked me to search it trough, to find the guy I recognised. Yoda went away to check on the taxi.

That morning I was still searching trough the files for the person that seemed familiar to me. Suddenly I came across the boy that I bumped in to at the hallway and read his information. He was a Padawan and just a few years older then me. I heard my comlink chirping and quickly went to the next picture, as if I felt caught. It was Yoda. The taxi that the guy in the black cloak had taken had been stolen earlier that night, seems he needed to escape quickly and he needed transportation that couldn't be tracked easily. So this was a dead end. I also couldn't find the other man in the files. Tired, I laid my head down at the table I was working on. It has been more then 48 hours that I last slept, I fell asleep finally.

Master Yoda woke me up next day in the morning and advised me to go back to my own bed. I walked out of his room and stepped into the turbolift and made sure that I would press the right number this time. Yeah! That was it! There was it where I saw that person before, eight floors below my room.  I looked at the map in the lift and traced my route back. From my floor to the lift where I arrived eight floors lower. The maintenance room. I never could find the person in the list because he wasn't a Jedi. Most of the maintenance work was done by droids, but there were also a few others to coordinate and repair the droids. And one of them had something to do with this sinister deal, I knew it for sure. The turbolift couldn't go to fast for me now when I went back to the room of Yoda. I used to Force to speed myself up when I ran to Yoda. I arrived just in time because he was about to leave.   "Master Yoda! I know where I saw that person before!"

Chapter 2: Black Smoke

The lights began to flicker before I could finish my sentence and Yoda looked puzzled to the lights.

“Master Yoda? There cannot be a power failure right?”

“No, a back-up generator we have.” Yoda whispered unaware because he was thinking.

“Is it possible to shut that down?” I asked.

“For that, qualified you must be. A special ID card to control the generators, you need. Only the Council and some of the maintenance crew, that ID card, have.”

All the pieces of the puzzle where starting to fall in place for me and I asked if I could see that ID card.

“The box you saw that is you think?” Yoda said while he went to get the ID card.

I looked at the box with the ID card and suddenly I felt very certain. “No, master Yoda, now I know it for sure!” This was the box that man was handing to the cloaked person.

“I have a bad feeling about this… something bad is going to happen. We need to go away from this place. We’re needed somewhere else. I don’t know why, but I can feel it.” I murmured, but Yoda heard it.

“Indeed, never the less, another big problem we have: not working the turbolifts also are. Jump 5 kilometres down and survive even a Jedi cannot.”  he answered. In the mean time all the Jedi gathered together in the hallways and we explained what has happened.  We decided not to destroy the building, but wait until the danger would appear. We try to perceive the danger. Some Jedi were meditating and looking for movements in the Force that would mean danger.  To rush into something was the worst thing to do. I found it uncomfortable to wait for the coming danger, but when it came it was worse then I thought it would be. Almost everybody sensed the cloud of danger was moving quickly to the training room where a group of new Padawans were training. With an amazing speed Plo Koon began to carve a hole in the ceiling with his lightsaber. We all jumped trough the hole and kept jumping while Koon cleared the way by carving more holes. When we were on the right floor we began to ran to the training rooms. The hallway was filled with big black clouds caused by an explosion. A ship had flown in the windows of one of the training rooms and because those where not protected by their electro-defence grids, it was all too easy for the attackers to enter the Temple.

The master, who was teaching, had quickly pulled the Padawans behind them with the Force and started to defend the padawans and himself, when the Padawans went to hide. A group of attackers began to shoot with many to the master. He was lucky that there were already other Jedi that had reached the room, because now he had some help. But the master was still shot down in his shoulder.

The remaining Jedi began to form a defence line against their new enemy and secured the wounded master. Yoda, the other Jedi and me arrived in the training room. When another Jedi, a Mon Calamari, was shot down, I took his place in the defence line. The enemy was with many and was armed with heavy weaponry. For every attacker that we could kill, two came back. But there had to come an end to how many more attackers could have arrived in the ship so the Jedi had the hope that it would soon end. In the heat of battle we didn’t noticed that a group of the attackers, and the leader, detached themselves from the attack and went quickly away trough a door.

Yoda noticed this and he asked Koon to stay and help while he took some other Jedi and me with him to follow the attackers. We went down the stairs and catch up with the attackers quick and I realised that we were under the room where the attack was going on. I saw the attackers we followed where placing a bomb right under it!

We attacked immediately and I was beginning to see why Yoda was seen as a powerful Jedi Master. It was the first time that I ever saw him fighting. Looks sure can be deceiving, I thought. I began to slice my way to the bomb when the attackers quickly began to retreat.

Most of the Jedi followed the retreating enemies. I decided to stay and help master Yoda with defusing the bomb. I saw a wounded Koorivar in front of me and I began to heal and interrogate him.   “Why are you attacking us?”   “You…Jedi…must be killed.” he said and even though he was dying he clearly spoke with a lot of anger in his voice. The word killing had a bitter aftersound.

”Why? We are only trying to help the people in the galaxy.”   “You…only...bring…trouble…everywhere you come.”

“Sometimes there needs to be trouble before there can be peace. An oppressed nation would gladly go trough some trouble if they can life in peace and freedom after it.”

“You… have…killed…Koorivars…without….reas…” but before the Koorivar could finish he lost consciousness. I tried to calm him and ease his pain, but he died quickly. I turned around to Yoda who gave me a approving look.

“You did well, by helping and listening to him. Lost of his burden is he.” Yoda said.

“Master Yoda, where we to blame what happened with that dispute on Koorivar?”

“What could have done, we did.”

Bwaaauuum !!!!

A cloud of smoke was dragged into the hallway where Yoda and I were. Yoda began to run towards the cloud. I followed him and I could see some Jedi laying wounded on the flour. Already too far away, I could see a ship flying away. That ship was parked before the window, meant to save the group we followed. But just one man survived these massacre. It was the leader who could escape. He was protected by his men, but when the last one died, he wanted to escape as fast as he could. He reached the window just in time and threw desperately  a thermal detonator to ensure his escape.

Quickly I took out my electrobinoculars and zoomed in on the ship till I had the leader in my view. He was badly wounded on his arm and I saved his image for further identification. We had a lot of severe casualties and Yoda was already busy to heal them with the Force. Not long after this the power went back on and we could use the medical droids.

The other Jedi had driven away the men from the temple. The temple was secured again.

Chapter 3: Black Day

“The attack had failed! How could this be? The plan was thought out so good! It wasn’t long before the bomb could go off and those padawans were dead!“ Gendale thought. The Jedi were apparently better prepared than he estimated. The difference between failing and succeeding was a few seconds, the few seconds the Jedi took when they saw him and his elite group detaching from the main group.

He tightened a bandage around his arm. Going to a hospital isn’t possible, he thought, because than I would be registered and this is a wound that is hard to explain. The piece of his arm was clearly cut away by a lightsaber, so he could better contact one of his connections that was specialised in droid replica’s. After that he would leave the planet and go into hiding.

“The man’s name is Gendale and there hasn’t been any sightings of him after the attack.” I reported to Yoda and master Reandes, who was the Mon Calamari that I took the place of during the fight.

“He was clearly the leader of the attackers and caused the second explosion by throwing a thermal detonator so that he could escape.” master Reandes said.

“Register him as a wanted person and start an investigation, I shall. What where our losses master Reandes?”

“Two Jedi have been killed and we have many wounded, master Yoda. But all the padawans survived so we came out pretty well trough this attack.”   Yoda nodded and turned to me: ”Laeïda, a mission for you and your master we have. Expected in the Council room you are.”

“Then I’ll see you later, master Yoda.” I said and bowed before I left.

Gendale still had to get used to the fake part on his arm. The Jedi who gave him this defect would pay for this….among with every other Jedi! But this time he should work alone and much more subtle. He should lead his own operation to become the most powerful Jedi ever. Either the Jedi would submit to his rules or be killed. This would cost a lot of money, but he already had that because his parents left him a fortune. All he needed now is the means on how to do this. He wanted to become the worst enemy of the Jedi. The Sith….those were the real enemies of the Jedi. The Sith where his key to become the worst enemy of the Jedi. The Sith must have had thousands of ways to kill and beat the Jedi. He started a Holonet search in his dark hotel room in the spaceport from Nar Shaddaa and searched for everything about the Sith.
